Our Week in Westport, WA

So I know it’s nearly September already, but I wanted to get on here and tell you guys about our early July trip to the cute little coastal town of Westport, WA. Although we couldn’t make it on the 4th, I’ve heard that a lot of people gather on the beaches of Westport (and Ocean shoes) every 4th of July and light off their own fireworks in the evening. Apparently, it’s quite the show… Oh well, next time!

We were able to get a condo at Westport By the Sea condominiums rather last-minute through Airbnb for 4 days/3 nights for under $1000. Upon arriving the afternoon of July 5th, we saw that our 2-bedroom condo was beautifully furnished and had a balcony and gorgeous view of the ocean. The facility also has a playground for kids, a jacuzzi, a heated pool, a basketball court, a tennis court and a fitness center! Once we settled in and had some dinner, we walked straight to the nearby beach. Though temperatures were warmer closer to home (in the 80’s) it was in the mid 70’s down by the water. We didn’t mind though—the salty, misty air was extremely refreshing! And the sunset was incredible. Check out some of our photos from the first night below:

When we woke up the next morning, it was pretty cloudy and there was a slight chill in the air. So, after a hearty breakfast, we headed to Westport’s cute downtown area to peruse their gift shops. Although the town of Westport isn’t particularly fancy, I found the downtown Marina area to be pretty cute. As we walked around, we popped into several shops, including Granny Hazel's Candy and Gifts where we bought Dan a little candy and a few cheap toys. I bought a great beanie for myself as well, because Fall was just around the corner! We then walked along the pier to get to my favorite shop in Westport—Basket House. It hardly looks like a store on the outside but, once inside, this shop has the best collection of stuff—toys, souvenirs, hoodies. I was able to find a good quality, thick green crewneck sweater that says “Westport”. I honestly wear it all the time now!

Once we were done shopping, we drove to Capt’n Jack’s coffee stand for some tasty oat milk latte’s, popped into the town’s grocery store for a few necessities, and headed back to the condo. After a quick lunch at the condo, it still hadn’t quite warmed up enough to frolic along the beach, so the boys went swimming in the (surprisingly) warm pool, while I read on a lounge chair. Truth be told, I feel like this was Danny’s favorite part of the trip! They killed a good hour and a half there—going back-and-forth between the pool and jacuzzi. By late afternoon, the sun was out and it had warmed up quite a bit. So, we finished the day off with another gorgeous sunset walk along the beach, dinner, and a family movie.

The following morning, we had breakfast at the condo and did a quick “family” workout in the gym. I can’t believe we got Danny to exercise! Afterwards, we noticed the sun starting to poke through the clouds (it was slightly warmer than the previous day) so we headed back to the beach and busted out our kites! Danny flew his BB8 kite that we had bought at the gift shop the day before, and I flew the kite we brought from home. We then spent a considerable amount of time building a sand castle structure (see below) before walking back to our condo for lunch.

After lunch, the boys went back to the—you guessed it—swimming pool! I, however, thoroughly enjoyed my alone time reading on the balcony (what can I say? I’m an introvert). Once they were all tuckered out, showered, and changed, we headed to Bay City Sausage Co to pick up some of their well-known sausages! After 20 minutes of indecisiveness, we ended up going with German garlic, bratwurst, and some turkey cranberry breakfast sausage (Note: the garlic ones are my fave). Afterword, we were a bit famished. Per the recommendation of some locals, we decided to stop by a popular seafood place called Merino’s and it did not disappoint. Jeremy got some of their amazing fish & chips, while Danny I ended up getting some cooked crab to-go, which we then used to make some scrumptious crab Louie salads back at the condo.

For the remainder of the evening, we stayed in and engaged in various leisurely family activities (board games, flipping though magazines, movies), before hitting the sack a little early. On our last morning, we woke up bright and early, had a hearty breakfast as per usual, and then spent some time packing up so we wouldn’t have to worry about it later. We then grabbed some coffees at Capt’n Jack’s coffee, before heading for a tour of the Grays harbor lighthouse! It cost us around $7 per person, and it was well worth-it! At 107 feet tall, this lighthouse is the tallest in Washington State. It is said to be the pride of Westport and Grays Harbor County. The staircase is original and forged of cast-iron. It was so fun to explore that Danny didn’t ask us to carry him once, even though there are 135 steps leading up to the lantern room. Once you reach the top, it is a photographer’s dream with a 360° view of the ocean and surrounding areas. Sadly, I forgot my phone…. After this fun, educational experience, we went back to the condo for our bags, and headed for home! We hope to be able to stay at Easy and Breezy in Westport again soon! It really is a great spot for families with littles :-)

Warmly,

Jer & Vita
